National Mission on Himalayan Studies

Implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC)
Nodal and Serving hub with G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment & Sustainable Development

Credentials of the Project: IERP/NMHS/07

Project ID: IERP/NMHS/07
Title: Root-associated ectomycorrizal fungi of Kashmir Himalayan conifers and effect of in-vitro mycorrhization of conifer seedlings on their growth and survival under field conditions.
Batch/ Financial Year: 2015-16
Total Grant: Rs. 15,43,500 (Fifteen lakh forty three thousand five hundred only)

Project Objectives Quantifiable Deliverables
Diversity of ECM fungi associated with root tips of Abies pindrow A. spectabilis, and Picea smithiana in mono-culture & mixed forest stands, and along an altitudinal gradient. Conspectus of ectomycorrhizal fungi associated with the roots of conifers.
Selection of ECM isolates that are commonly associated with the host species for pure inoculums production and standardization of conditions for their in vitro culture. Host-specificity of ECM fungi and widespread ectomycorrhzial fungi.
Evaluation of selected ECM isolates either alone or in consortia on seedling survival and growth of target conifer species. Standardization of conditions and requirements for culture of ectomycorrhzial fungi and mass inoculum production.
In vitro inoculated seedlings for their growth performance and survival.
