Theme 04: Innovative Water Management & Treatment Technologies

The Innovative Water Management and Treatment Technologies theme under the Him-CONNECT initiative highlighted research and technological solutions aimed at improving water quality, accessibility, and sustainable water management across the Himalayan region. Experts presented innovative systems designed to address wastewater treatment, clean drinking water availability, and efficient reuse of water resources in remote mountain environments.

These technologies demonstrate how scientific innovation can support environmental protection, public health, and sustainable agricultural practices in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR).

1. Pine Needle-based Wastewater Treatment System – Dr. Vasudha Agnihotri, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE), Almora, Uttarakhand
2. Solar Energy-based Portable Clean Drinking Water Treatment Unit – Dr. Anup Shukla, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jammu, J&K
3. Decentralized Wastewater Treatment & Reuse in Agriculture – Dr. Deepak Swamy, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Jodhpur, Rajasthan

These valuable contributions were made possible through collaboration with leading institutions including IIT Jammu, G.B. Pant National Institute of Himalayan Environment (NIHE) Almora, and IIT Jodhpur. Their research efforts play a crucial role in advancing sustainable water management technologies suitable for the Himalayan ecosystem.

The Him-CONNECT initiative, organized under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India and facilitated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) during WSDS 2026, aims to connect Himalayan innovations with start-ups and industry, helping bridge the gap between research laboratories and real-world applications.
