Him-NLC Brief Description:

The proposal of establishing the NLC in Sepahijala WLS integrating the botanical garden and NIC specifically for the purpose is fully justified as the best site for such activities not only in the state but in the region. This is due to the uniqueness and compactness of this area having established in-situ and ex-situ conservation sites with natural flow of annual visitors from across the world. It has an established NIC and a Botanical Garden the infrastructures of trained manpower and upgraded facilities which would activate the infrastructures already developed with a vision for educating people about nature and appreciating natural resources. Moreover the sanctuary has 11 functional EDCs who participate actively in all management related works and celebration of wildlife weeks etc but are not exposed to sufficient skill- development oriented trainings which may eventually support livelihood requirements of forest dependant people through formation of small SHGs thereby reducing pressure on the forests and promoting active participation in protection of the natural resources around. This project if implemented in a visionary mode shall turn into a model in the whole country for linking the nature education and sustainable livelihood of local people through a common platform in the name of NLC.Educating the people on nature and its need for mankind through interpretation and trainings for sustainable livelihood with a vision for developing ownership feeling on the natural resources of the state.
