Conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity: Survey and identification of selected lesser known aromatic plants viz. Lantana (Lantana camara), Surai (Cupressus torulosa), Gania grass (Cymbopogon distans), Kalabansa (Eupatorium adenophorum) and Artemisia (Artemisia vulgaris)

• New essential oils will be introduced to industry and trade from Himalayan region.

• Opportunities for supplementary income to local inhabitants and entrepreneurs by converting these waste lesser known aromatic plants/ obnoxious weeds into ‘Aroma Wealth’.

• Survey, resource mapping and collection of plants - Extensive fieldsurvey of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand (Districts Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Pauri)
HRA002 Dehradun and Udhamsinghnagar Extent of impact of capacity building programme: Development of appropriate field extraction techniques for the minor essential oils

• Setting up of new micro enterprises in mountains of Uttarakhand.

• Marketing linkages of these minor essential oils would be established.

•Designing and conducting of experiment for developing cost effective and sustainable harvesting methods

Studies on physicochemical, therapeutic properties and safety data.

• Sustainable solutions to the environmental problems and lower green house effects.

• Revival of endemic biodiversity.

Study of sensory properties for perfumery applications.

• Scientific evidences and databases developed/ augmented/ disseminated.

Providing supplementary livelihood to local inhabitant through sustainable utilization (harvesting and distillation) of lesser known aromatic plants, which goes otherwise waste.

• Alternative livelihood means giving emphasis on green job creation explored; and
