• Collection of fecal samples from tribal population of Distt. Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahul- Spiti of Himachal Pradesh

 

• Metagenomic analysis of gut microbiota amongst the tribal population

 

• Isolation and characterization of culturable microorganisms harboring gut of tribal population

 

• Identification of probiotics strains, producing natural antimicrobial substances such as bacteriocin and characterization of bacteriocin thereof

 

• Development of probiotics products using effective microbial strains and to explore the potential of purified bacteriocin in food products

• Provide an insight into the gut microbiota of tribal population of Himachal Pradesh, which was not characterized before

 

• Help to correlate the gut microbiota of tribal population with their food habits and lifestyle.

 

• Insight and differences in gut microflora of tribal people with urban people

 

• Provide strains which are efficient natural antimicrobial substances producers

 

• The natural antimicrobial substances produced from the proposed study will have enormous application in health and medical fields

 

• The efficient strains identified and isolated in the proposed study will be used in the development of probiotics-based products.

• Evaluation of morphological characteristics of S. costus collected from different altitudes and geographical locations.

 

• Phyto-chemical evaluation of phyto-constituents of root and oil obtained from of S. costus.

 

• Evaluation of genetic variability among S. costus collected from different altitudes and geographical locations in IHR with a view to conserve an elite variety.

 

• An identified plant species of S. costus yielding maximum phyto-constituents and essential oil may be suggested and its enhanced conservation through local practices in respective geography and altitude may remove its status from list of endangered plants. Therefore, the indigenous people from the region may be benefitted from the plant.
