Project Brief Description: | People of the Hill areas suffer with the problems of meeting the cooking, heating and other energy demand which largely is derived from natural forests in the form of fuel wood and/or forest wastes. Due to the increase in the energy demand in the rural areas, the problems of deforestation and environment degradation is becoming very acute with rise in fuel prices.
To meet the growing demand of energy of these areas,to increase he per-capita energy consumption, to resolve the problem of forest fire, to generate employment, to support climate change mitigation, to strengthen livelihood options, to enhance the capacity of females and local youth and to address the problem of migration, the attention is focused on to utilizing the forest wastes like pine-needles which require increase in its density for its proper use in rural areas as alternative solid fuels.
This project proposes the following which is aligned with CFP announced: • Leveraging the forest waste (esp. pineneedle, which turnout to be harmful) for providing means of livelihood based upon forest bio-residue to support bio-briquette industry through technology interventions. • Developing value chains including market access • Building capacities of locals through training sessions, structured education, awareness, and outreach while introducing bio-briquetting machine and its functioning to villagers. • Providingan ICT platform for auctioning of bio-briquettes to industry players and networking with other stakeholders, which can help in sustaining ecology and livelihood of Indian Himalayan region. The proposed plan is as follows: • Area of Operation: • In and around Nainitaland Pithoragarh Districts (Chir Pine dominant areas) • Reaching out to the people requiring complimentary mode of energy at household level (Cooking, Lighting, Heating and Industrial Usage) • Manufacturing and Distribution of machines and energy efficient devices • Developing the cost effective value chains • Based on real time data as well as based on best practices • Interaction with Government : Issuing GO for keeping the bio residue out of the ambit of forest produce • Institutional interventions: • Developing the cost effective value chain through forest produce, local villagers and entrepreneurs. • Issue of GO for government units for using the clean energy • Capacity Building of the users: • Training on technical aspects of operation and maintenance of machines • Training on business aspects of the potential entrepreneurs • Digitally connecting the complete system developed and enhancing the capacity of the beneficiaries/users with the support of digital /Information and Communication Technology. • Development, vetting and enumeration the socio-economic and financial impacts in terms of women empowerment, health, education, reverse migration. The project aims to promote social entrepreneurship among rural youths of hill region. It is also planned to integrate the market with the help of IT interventions. The entrepreneurs identified and other local people involved will be provided technical as well as business skills. Thus, this proposed idea foresees self-reliance with ecological and livelihood sustainability. It also visualizes the gender equality along with mitigating climate change, resolving the issue of forest fire and curbing migration. This project envisages to strengthen the capacity and to develop the human capital of Himalayan region by structurally and systematically documenting it and subsequently disseminating it for the benefit of larger value chains by integrating the people of this region as an integral and originating part of the identified value chains. |
