Him-NLC Brief Description: | The survival of human beings is, directly and indirectly, dependent on forests; as all basic needs i.e roti, kapra and makan (Bread, clothes and shelter) are met from forests. Soil, plants and moisture have intrinsic relationship. These affect one another . With passage of time, the population of human being is increased, pressure on forests have significantly increased. There is adverse effect in form of Climate change, global warming etc. Shifting cultivation has adversely affected environment in form of soil and water erosion, loosing fertility of the soil. There is need of capacity development of people of the State for protection of environment, ecology, flora and fauna, doing away of shifting cultivation and replacing it either terrace cultivation or shifting cultivation with tree plantation. The Botanical Garden of the NLC will make ex-situ conservation of endangered flora and Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar will make ex-situ conservation of endangered fauna. The SEFTI / NLC will be centre for capacity building of the people of the State. Sustainable Forest Management and sustainable Development, Tree Based Sustainable Economy. |
