Project Brief Description: The main theme of the project is to increase the income and provide a viable livelihood support linked with cross cutting issues for gender, climate change, migration, human-crop conflicts and aspiration of youth etc. Cultivation of medicinal mushroom justifies the new and innovative ideas to generate the employment on one hand and deals with the climatic issues, wildlife-crop conflicts and migration on another. The project envisages to provide a platform to the SC communities, farmers from underprivileged section, women and marginal farmers of the selected villages so that they can become self-sufficient and also motivate and provide employment opportunities to other people thus promoting entrepreneurship and start up initiatives. The project aims at developing a complete package of medicinal mushroom activities which enables a family to generate income throughout the year. The project will provide a platform for raising the income, creation of employments, address peoples migration, tackling the global climate change, and uplifting the status of marginal farmers and underprivileged communities and supply of good quality medicine. We will explore, understand and establish market linkages for medicinal mushroom at three levels, local, regional and international as per scale of production available in the community. Assessment of marketing needs for farmers groups will be identified through regular interactive meetings. To build capacity of potential members, marketing specific trainings will be organized which will be followed by refresher trainings. Capacity buildings of farmers groups would be done through exposure visits to the medicinal mushroom growers and agri-business companies. CBED will also help to develop a market information system for the farmers. CBED has a long experience of working with mountain communities and in area of marketing.
