Project Brief Description: | The project aims to promote sustainable economic activity centered on rich orchid biodiversity of Arunachal Pradesh and feasibility of orchid cultivation for floriculture and medicinal use, which will lead to creation of livelihood opportunities, employment generation, income augmentation, sustainable use of orchid biodiversity while also safeguarding the natural orchid wealth of Arunachal Pradesh. It is located in the Eastern Himalayas and are globally renowned for its biological diversity and the traditional knowledge associated with it. These are part of the global biodiversity hotspot. Activities will be taken up to promote scientific orchid cultivation for orchid trade as cut flower and potted ornamental. Availability of medicinally important bioactive compounds in native orchids of Arunachal Pradesh will be explored for extraction and formulation of nutraceutical compounds. The project will be in synergy with the protection of environment and natural resources available in the fragile Himalayan ecosystem of Arunachal Pradesh. | |||
