Project Brief Description: In the north-eastern region of Indian Himalayan, traditional bamboo based houses are generally used by local communities for their shelter. However, these houses are not found suitable as a healthy shelter in terms its durability and reliability to overcome the environmental effect such as high rainfall and/or wind. In this view, the present project aim to develop a new technology for constructing low cost affordable and durable houses using bricks and laminates made from bamboo micron fibers. This affordable housing technology has tremendous potential to uplift the livelihood of society mainly in the region. The project falls in the Broad Thematic Groups (BTGs) Sustainable Infrastructure and Energy Security under the National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS). In this project, knowledge and skills developed among local communities & construction workers will be conduct about low cost bomboo bricks/laminated board from (Bomboo Micron Fibers) BMFs which helps in income generation and livelihoods enhancement.
