Project Brief Description: No organizations/scientific institutes/government departments/NGOs have so far examined the arsenic contamination and precise water quality in any kind of waters in the state of Uttarakhand except for scattered practices made by the Central Groundwater Board. This project will make a beginning in this aspect by examining various waters (e.g., hand pumps, shallow and deep aquifers, streams, springs, closed water bodies etc.) for Arsenic and other contaminations. The outcome of this project in either cases of presence or absence of arsenic will have an innovative relevance to the society. The people of Uttarakhand will be contented if there is no arsenic and other water contaminants and be vigilant if there is. This will assist researchers to come to a conclusion in either case. We aim to measure various parameters of different water bodies both in the field (using Arsenic kits and microprocessor water quality kits) as well as in the laboratories (using Atomic Absorption Spectrometer) of Kumaun University and G. B. Pant University, Pantnagar with Co-Investigators and also at Pollution Control Research Institute (PCRI), Haridwar on payment basis. The framework of problem-solving curriculum for the polluted water areas in the study region can be envisaged in three categories of activities; (i) research and development activities to ensure sustainable solutions, (ii) ensuring supply of pollution free water, and (iii) capacity building and social empowerment.
Beneficiaries/ Stakeholders:

Nearly 10 million people will be benefitted from this project
