Project Brief Description: | The study aims to cover crop-fish integration, livestock-fish integration, crop-fish-livestock integration or combinations of crop, livestock, fish, poultry, piggery and other enterprises. This approach will aim at doubling the income and employment opportunities from small-holding farmers by integrating various farm enterprises and recycling crop residues and by products within the farm itself. In Sikkim there is recent trend of labour migration from agricultural sector to non-agricultural sector due to scarcity of agricultural land, less production against increasing demand of agricultural produce. There is less marketable surplus and wide variation of price of agricultural products. The increase in population and fragmented land holding demands for a radical change in strategy of earlier conventional monoculture practices followed by majority of farmers in Sikkim. Therefore, the study is designed to meet above said requirements and benefit marginal small holding farmers. | |||
Beneficiaries/ Stakeholders: | The beneficiaries of the project will be small and marginal land holding farmers possessing land area of 1 hectare or less. These will be in particular including SC, ST and women farmers of Sikkim. |
