Project Brief Description: In the hills, agricultural land once being cultivable is now barren due to the unavailability of region-specific farm power and machinery. Animals in hills served a major part of farm power operations but their use and availability has decelerated with time. Continuous decline in the cultivable area and wild animal have threatens food security and livelihood in hills. Hence, there is need to develop innovative and sustainable farm mechanization solution to enhance land use and productivity of hill agriculture. In the hills, agriculture mechanization gap exists mainly due to the absence of farm power, bulky nature of machine, and unavailability of gender-neutral technologies. Topography-specific farm mechanization through light weight farm tools and equipment can enhance the efficiency of agriculture and reducing drudgery. This project aims at developing a Solar Power based Mechatronics Prime Mover device for the agricultural operations (for sowing, intercultural, irrigation, weeding, spraying and harvesting operations). Size, weight, gender-friendly technology and appropriate power source are the identified mechanization gap in these regions. Utilizing renewable solar energy for farm mechanization offers a potential green technology with efficient control system for multi operational units from single source. In this product, potential of solar energy can be utilized in agriculture farms.
