SGP Brief Description:

There are varieties of direct life support forest tree species especially the wild fruit yielding trees. The proposed project area is particularly rich in trees. Life support contributions of the wild fruits includes which can meet the nutritional requirements of the human body, income through selling of the fruits; providing habitat and shelter to biodiversity as well as supporting spring water production and environment protection. Wild fruits are part of the food security of the Himalayan people. However, in the present situation, there is scarcity of those once abundant resources due to excessive biotic interference, excessive exploitation, over trampling and unsustainable form of management. There is also visible decrease in soil moisture content of the soils especially during lean seasons. It is observed that even useful wild fruits trees are cut to meet the domestic fuel needs and also to facilitate fruit collection. Therefore, there is a necessity to take up scientific interventions to promote conservation of the declining life support forest tree species especially in the IHR where the hill dwelling tribal population hugely depends upon. This will promote li velihood and wellbeing of the IH people.

Beneficiaries/ Stakeholders: The beneficiaries are the local scheduled tribes who live in the hilly areas of the state.
